Pompeii Private Guided Tour Itinerary

Pompeii is awash with fascinating history and archaeological wonders. On this guided tour you’ll meet one of our knowledgeable guides in Pompeii to experience some of the tragic past that has made it the place it is today, as well as learn more about the devastating volcanic eruption that left the town covered in a thick layer of ash back in 79 AD.

Today, the town is a well-preserved outdoor museum of age-old buildings that have stood the test of time and people that look like they’ve been protected in plaster cast. From Pompeii, you can see the imposing silhouette of Mount Vesuvius in the background while admiring the rustic, historic streets of a city that has been wracked with tragedy over and over again.

The tour kicks off at Marina Gate and we’ll then move onto the Basilica, where you can see an example of an impressive feat of architecture that harks back hundreds of years.

From there, we’ll go to the Forum and the main square that is flanked by a series of municipal buildings. Once you’ve had a wander around, we’ll take you to the meat and fish market so you can experience a different side of Pompeii and the region.

Experiencing Pompeii in person is an incredibly moving experience, but there’s more to the region than its volcanic history. As well as learning all about the narratives of the past, we’ll also take you to some thermal baths, the House of Vettii, an Italian bakery, and the Temples of Jupiter and Venere.

On top of that, you’ll get to see the Lupanar which was, at one point in time, the most popular Pompeii’s brothel. Today, you can still see erotic paintings on the dilapidated walls of the building.

This tour is the perfect introduction to Pompeii for history lovers who want to learn more.

Customised Itineraries

If there is an attraction you think we miss in this itinerary, or you have a special interest you would like us to cover, just let us know when you book, and we can include it in your personalised tour.

The excavations of Pompeii cover a vast area and with so much history to experience, there will never be enough time to take in it all! If two hours doesn’t sound like it will satisfy your interest in Pompeii, book our three-hour tour to explore further and deeper into the ancient history of this city frozen in time. If that still doesn’t seem long enough, contact us to arrange a longer customised tour.
