Do you need a skip the line ticket for Pompeii?

You don’t need the skip the line ticket to get access to Pompeii. A normal ticket will secure a spot for you to access Pompeii, but you will need to wait in line. If you buy a skip the line ticket, you will skip the long lines and get entrance into Pompeii. If you want to avoid the long lines, we recommend spending the extra money and buying skip the line ticket. This means you will have more time to explore Pompeii and not waste time standing in line for ages.

History about Pompeii

Pompeii was once a thriving ancient town in Italy. You can tell the city was wealthy due to the luxurious and beautiful buildings. Then the volcano Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D. The city was covered in four to six metres of volcanic ash. Because of this, it preserved the city, and the citizens remains. It was only in 1748 that the city was rediscovered and became an archaeological site. When you see the city today, this is how it was when the volcano erupted.

Best time to visit

If you don’t want to buy a skip the line ticket, it’s best to visit Pompeii when it first opens or end of the day during the last entrance time. Summer is Pompeii’s peak season so prepare for a lot of queues around this time. But if you visit from November to March, there are less people around. It’s still recommended to buy a skip the line ticket to avoid a sudden long line that might occur.

How to get to Pompeii

You can’t stay in Pompeii, but there are nearby cities where you can stay which makes getting to Pompeii easy. Some of the more popular cities visitors stay in are Naples, Sorrento, and Rome. The best way to get to Pompeii from these cities is either through a tour, train, or by car. The closest city to Pompeii is Herculaneum. The drive to Pompeii from Herculaneum is only 20 minutes.

What to see in Pompeii

There is a lot to see when walking through the ruins of Pompeii.
Pompeii Spectacular was built around 70 B.C. It’s one of the oldest Roman amphitheatres built from stone. Pompeii Spectacular was used for events, mainly gladiatorial battles.
Pompeii Forum was a popular location for political, religious and cultural life in Pompeii.
Fresco paintings can be found across the ruins of Pompeii. You can find them in the Villa of Mysteries, Leda and the Brothels of Pompeii.
Temple of Apollo was built in 120 BC and dedicated to the Greek-Roman god, Apollo.
