Bathhouses were a popular feature in Roman cities. Some of the wealthier families in Pompeii had their own bathhouses.

But there were bathhouses for the public to use too. These bathhouses were used for people to be able to bathe themselves as it wasn’t a private thing to do.

Pompeii also has the oldest bathhouse in the world which is from the 2nd century BCE.
